Getting Repeat Prescriptions

You can get your repeat prescriptions by:

  • Putting your prescription slip in the box at reception
  • Emailing your repeat prescription

Make sure to tick the items you need on your form and request them before 11:00 AM. Your prescription will be ready in SEVEN working days.

We don’t take repeat prescription requests over the phone.

We want to make sure your medication is right for you. If you haven't been seen recently, you might need to make an appointment for a review with a pharmacist.

Urgent Prescriptions

An URGENT prescription is for medication you need within 24 hours to stop you from becoming very sick or pregnant. Examples include:

If you use these often, book an appointment with an Asthma Nurse within 4 weeks.

Emergency Contraception (Morning After Pill)

Some pharmacies offer this for free, or you can get it from sexual health clinics or buy it over the counter (OTC). Examples: Levonelle (within 72 hrs), ellaOne (within 120 hrs)

Antiepileptics

Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Gabapentin, Sodium Valproate

GTN sprays and 300mcg tablets for Angina

Can be bought from the pharmacy.

Electronic Prescribing Service

Please do not call NHS111 to order repeat prescriptions. NHS111 is currently experiencing high call volumes and should be contacted for urgent enquiries only.

This practice is set up for the electronic prescription service.

This means that for most patients we can send your prescription to your chosen chemist directly, saving you having to come down to the surgery.

To get your prescription sent to your chosen pharmacy you will have to ask reception to sign up.

If you get regular or repeat prescriptions, you could also save time by switching to electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD).

eRD sends your prescriptions electronically from your GP surgery to a pharmacy of your choice. It’s easy to use and you don't need a computer or electronic device. Ask your practice pharmacist if you would be eligible, and have it set it up at your next medication review.

Collections

Patients wishing to collect their medication from Lloyds Market Square, Reliance Pharmacy must ensure that the re-order slip shows this information otherwise the repeat prescription will be held at reception for collection by the patient.

To maintain patient confidentiality and to prevent prescriptions going into the wrong hands, our staff may ask to see identification prior to handing out prescriptions.

If you ask someone else to collect your prescription on your behalf, the surgery must have your consent.

Please do not be offended if any member of our staff refuses to hand out a prescription without the above measures having been taken.

Prescription Fees

Help with NHS costs

In England, around 90% of prescription items are dispensed free. This includes exemptions from charging for those on low incomes, such as:

  • those on specific benefits or through the NHS Low Income Scheme
  • those who are age exempt
  • those with certain medical conditions

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

  • Prescription (per item): £9.65
  • 12-month prepayment certificate (PPC): £111.60
  • 3-month PPC: £31.25

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
